An Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with  steep sided valleys, rock formations and remote moorland not as often frequented by walkers as some of the other dales. There are various starting points the main ones being Pateley Bridge, Middlesmoor or Scar House. There is excellent public transport access to Pateley Bridge via Harrogate and from further afield on Summer Sundays.

  • Service 24 runs Harrogate to Pateley Bridge every day
  • DalesBus 825 runs from Ripon to Fountains Abbey and Brimham Rocks on Summer Sundays
  • DalesBus 821 rus from Keighley to Pateley Bridge/ ScarHouse via Otley and Fewston on Summer Sundays
  • DalesBus 822 runs from York to Grassington via Pateley Bridge and Harrogate on Summer Sundays
  • Northern Rail run regular trains services to Harrogate
