Oughtershaw to Ling Gill Circular Walk 7 - Oughtershaw -Ling Gill- Greenfield Circular - 11 .5 miles - 6 hours. A walk through some remote country at the head of Langstrothdale (the watershed between the Wharfe and the Ribble)-Back to Upper Wharfedale Page
Start at Oughtershaw - there is a grass lay-by on the hill on the road going towards Hawes. Walk down the hill and turn right along vehicle track (actually the Dales Way) passing Nethergill and Swarthgill Farms. The track becomes a path leading slightly up the hillside to reach Cam Houses. Thence walk through corner of dense forest to reach Roman road at top of hill. Follow Roman road to Cam End (overlooking Ribblehead) and turn left along track for about 1/2 mile to meet Ling Gill. After Ling Gill bridge continue along track for 400m and bear left up hillside to poorly defined path. This soon follows a wall to cross a stream near a shepherd's hut. Continue slightly uphill with wall on right until forest reached. Follow path through forest until vehicle track reached (near bridge). Turn left along track to reach minor road at Greenfield. Walk along road for 1 ½ miles (there is no alternative).
Shortly after the gate in road at Low Greenfield turn left up the forestry track. After 500m the footpath leaves the forest track and bears right (this is easy to miss!). Follow path through forest to top of hill and wall. Cross the field dropping down the hillside and returning across the bridge to Oughtershaw.
